For as long as I can remember, my Mom has been the coupon queen. She has envelopes and envelopes full of coupons. If there was something we needed, you could bet she had a coupon for it somewhere. And miraculously enough she always knew exactly where to find it. Her motto is "If it isn't on sale, don't buy it." If you buy it when it isn't on sale, you can guarantee it will go on sale just after you bought it. She taught us that there are seasons to stock up on certain things (sheets etc. are best to buy at the first of the year, this is when they always have the white sales) and if you can wait to buy it...wait! When I went away for school and started out on my own, the thought of managing coupons, clipping-storing-remembering all seemed like too much to deal with. But then when I started realizing how much you can save, I was sucked in. So this week, Albertsons is having 10 for $10 and 10 for $15.00 sales on groceries this week. (also for today only, you can get chicken, pork, etc for 50% off for Hawaiian days) All stuff to stock up for for food storage and the pantry. I had a few coupons that were for some of the items and you can even print them offline. Armed with coupons and a list (my mother would be so proud!!) we headed off to the store. Maddie was so excited when Trix yogurt landed in the cart. "You mean we actually get to buy it this time?!" I told her that it was on sale and we had a coupon so she could have it. She looked up at me and said "This is going to be a great shopping trip...I just know it!" When I finally picked up everything on the list and had my coupons ready we got in line. This is my favorite part. The cashier rang up all of the items and I watched as the total rose higher and higher. After she finished scanning, I gave her my preferred card and my stack of coupons and watched as the total fell and fell. It went from $110.62 to $40.35 saving me $70.27. (I also had to pick up a few other things that weren't on sale but hey not bad! )Plus all of the stuff on sale was part of the Box Tops for Education. Since Maddie is starting school in just under 2 weeks, I figured I should start doing my part to give money to her school. When the cashier handed me my reciept it came with 3 printouts worth 20 box tops each to turn into the school too! With the cost of so many things on the rise, it feels so good to be able to save money wherever you can!
