I will say this before I make my list for the week...I have been more aware of the things I am thankful for since starting this Thursday tradition. And it is amazing, the little things that I take for granted. Some are serious, some are fun, and some seem like silly little things, but I am grateful for them none the less. So on that note, here we go...
1. I am thankful that I can stay at home and raise our kids. There are days that I joke with Josh that I would switch him jobs any day and that I would happily skip off to work and leave him at home with my job. But in all honesty, I would get to that job and bawl like a baby because I missed my kids. I am so lucky that I am the one who gets to kiss their owies, make their food, play games with them, take them and pick them up from school, and raise them. And we are living in a world where the role of stay at home Mom is frowned on and in a lot of cases, isn't an option. I personally believe that this is the most important job in the world and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
2. I am thankful for Hayden. Sure, he will be in his 20's or 30's before he is potty trained, and he loves to take my stuff apart. But he is my buddy. He is our little comedian. And he can say the sweetest little things. Actually this morning I was in my bathroom getting ready and his little head popped around the corner. He said "Mom, I want to stay with you. I want to stay with you forever." It was so sweet because right now, he thinks I am pretty cool...but one day I will be wishing he would want to stay. He can be a handful but he has so much love in that little heart of his.
3. While we are on the subject of potty training...I am so thankful for disposable diapers. I have two in them now...(I swore up and down that I would NEVER have two in diapers and yet here I am! Never say never.) Yes, I know they fill up landfills and all that stuff. And I am all into conserving and recycling as much as I can but I think disposable diapers are the best. My Mom had cloth diapers and I know that people today still use them but I am not one of those kinds of Moms. I won't go into detail, but yes, thank heavens for disposable diapers!
4. I am thankful for good weather, parks and backyards. The kids go crazy being cooped up indoors all day and I love that the weather is nice enough to pack them up to the park or send them in the backyard to play!
5. Having health insurance. I worked at a clinic and there would be times people would come up to me and say that they thought health insurance was a waste of money. I personally didn't agree with them and now after having a baby and then having her in the hospital...I am so grateful we have insurance and that we didn't have to carry the weight of the entire bill on our shoulders. This one I am sure could turn into a political thread about how messed up our healthcare system is but for what we do have, I am thankful.
