I can do it myself

Hayden is on a big independence kick. "I can do it mysewf" is what he tells me anytime I try to get him dressed in the morning. Usually he will come out and his pants will be on backwards "Because I like seeing my pockets Mom" and his shirt will be inside out "because it looks cool this way" so when I asked him to hurry and get dressed yesterday so we could go run errands I should have known better. He was in there for a good 5 minutes and then came out proudly wearing this:

Now you may be thinking "That isn't so bad..." but it is and here is why. See, if he wears this, he is going to want to wear his soccer socks (which are still HUGE on him and he insists on pulling them ALL the way up which makes them land at about mid thigh-that is just HANDSOME!) and his soccer shoes to boot. It is like the book "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie" The clompy noisy soccer shoes. No thank you! So I told him to go get a real outfit on, one that doesn't use his soccer shoes.

He went back in his room and it was quiet for another few moments and he came out again...wearing this:

Alright, if I was against the soccer combo...this was definitely going to be out. He looked at me and said "I don't have to wear any shoes at all. I am a pirate! Pirates don't wear shoes!!" Thank goodness stores require shoes or I wouldn't have anything to use to argue this outfit. I told him he would have to sit in the car by himself at all of the stores while I went in with Grace. He said "That's fine" so I said, "That means no songs and no air conditioner. I have to take the keys."

That got him thinking and he went back in and changed. I am in trouble when one day the thought of having to change isn't phased by the lack of air conditioning and tunes!
