I was running errands yesterday and saw my drivers license which reminded me that I was due for a renewal. Nothing like waiting until the last minute since the ol' birthday was in 2 days. That is the way I do things these days, by the seat of my pants.
I figured that there was no time like the present. Sure it was snowing outside but why not hurry and run to the DMV and get that baby renewed? I stopped by the house and grabbed my birth certificate and social security card and headed out.
There was a huge long form to fill out. Once I answered that I was not an illegal alien and didn't have seizures but do have to wear contacts or glasses because my eye sight is painfully bad we were ready to stand in line. Luckily, the snow had kept a few people away.
**Sidenote: Why is it that the most interesting people can be found at DMV's, the Health Department and Walmart? Just curious.
Anyway... it was finally my turn. The guy working there must not love his job. He did not get an A for customer service. I don't think he cares though. He demanded (not asked) for my birth certificate and social security card. I put them on the counter. Next thing I know he says "Go sit on that chair". There was one right behind me. I hurried and sat down and the next thing I know he says quickly "Look at this dot...One, two, three" and there was a flash.
BAM.
The mean guy is also apparently in charge of taking the picture.
Super.
There were two things wrong with this. First...somehow I had forgotten that renewing a license also means a new picture. I was SO not prepared for that. Second, can I just say that my picture is now the worst license picture in all of America now? I joke not.
They give you a temporary permit until your new shiny one comes in the mail. They also punch holes in your old one and give it back to you.
I sat in the parking lot looking at the two pictures. My old one, I had just had Hayden a few months earlier (cause like I said I used to be on the ball and did things early) I had managed to do my hair and even had lipstick on. I smiled and looked pleasant. Fast forward 5 years later. My hair is flat and nasty (remember: errands and snow, enough said.) and lipstick? Ummm...apparently carmex is not going to help the fact that I look like I climbed out from under a rock for a picture. I would suggest not doing this just before a birthday. Now I feel really really old.
I have a couple of options. I could bury it in my wallet and then put my thumb over my face when pulling it out OR I could be so very vain and go back in a month or so and conveniently claim that mine was lost (to the shredder) and pay for a new one.
Decisions, decisions.

It's hard not to want to look good in your photo, we flash that thing around all the time! I just renewed mine too. I did go prepared for a new picture but alas, I still felt old when comparing the new to the old. I think I will never like a driver license picture of me again!
Ha ha! I don't know why you didn't share your new picture with everyone on your blog?!
I need to renew mine soon, too. I pulled out my current one the other day and they boys saw it. I had it taken when Blake was a baby. I had long hair and I was thinner. Blake was really studying it. He then looked at me and asked, "Who is this, anyway?"
I felt so old.
The only problem with losing it, is that it will cost you $18.00. Just did it two weeks ago. My camera guy was nice. Maybe it was the snow!
haha! Yeah, I have never loved any of my pics. i say, save your $18.00, the only people that might see your DL pic are the checkers at Wal-Mart when they ask for your card and ID!!!
haha, you know the ones.;)
The last time I renewed mine that asked me not to smile. I tried a smaller closed mouth smile and got in trouble for not listening. NO SMILING at all is apparantly how they ensure that everyone gets a terrible DL picture here in NC.
Haha! Hilarious! Sorry. Nothing bummes me out more than a bad picture! I'm sure it's not as bad as you are making it sound...we're always harder on ourselves! :)
I think we must have been sisters in a PREVIOUS life!!! Seriously, this is how EVERY day is for me! I love the tidbit on the snow.....so true! (Except, in my life, I have a 4 year old dancing to jams in the back seat!) Sorry it was a bad photo op.
