I picked up this book from the library. And I am amazed at how good it was. I think I might actually run down to Deseret Book and buy it for the nights where I am worrying about how I am doing as a mother. We all have those days where we think "If I have to clean up one more mess- I am going to loose it!" or "I just folded the last load of laundry (and it was all washed and folded the same day!) and that is all there is to me...laundry, dishes, kids, messes." But this book put so much into perspective for me. It was also a great reminder of things I had been taught before I became a Mom. Jane Clayson points out that the role of Mother has been diminished over the past few decades. It isn't a revered position like it used to be. It doesn't bring a paycheck, doesn't give vacation or sick days, it is long days and long nights. She talks about meeting with women and when asked what they do they respond with "Oh, I am just a mom." and that we should be proud to be mothers. It was an amazing book full of insight and pats on the back. It has made me realize that when I am asked what I do I will never again say " I am just a Mom."
"You are doing God’s work. You are doing it wonderfully well. He is blessing you, and He will bless you, even—no especially—when your days and your nights may be most challenging. Like the woman who anonymously, meekly, perhaps even with hesitation and some embarrassment, fought her way through the crowd just to touch the hem of the Master’s garment, so Christ will say to the women who worry and wonder and weep over their responsibility as mothers, ‘Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole.’ And it will make your children whole as well.”
