Yesterday morning, we were beginning our fast because it was surgery day for Michelle. Maddie began asking a million questions as to why we fast and her biggest questions were "If Michelle had a 'daddy's blessing' then why does she still need surgery. We spent some time answering her questions. And then called to talk to my sister before she went in for surgery. Michelle had been bummed because she of course couldn't wear make up or lotions and she couldn't eat. But my Mom knew how to cheer her up before the surgery because when they answered the cell phone they were shopping for Michelle's birthday presents (ie. clothes). They had just gotten a call from the hospital before I had called saying that they were moving Michelle's surgery up to 1:00 instead of 3:00. So they were finishing up at the store and heading over to the hospital. You could tell it was starting to sink in for Michelle. My Mom said they would call as soon as they had any news but that it should take an hour and a half if they could find the nerve and everything went as planned. So when I hadn't heard anything from them at 3:00 I started to get nervous. I called and my Mom said they hadn't heard anything from the doctors yet. She was panicing. I told her I was sure she was fine (inside hoping she really was) and that we would probably hear something soon. Just after 4:00, I finally got a call from my Dad saying they had just taken Michelle to the recovery and she had woken up. Everything went perfectly. They tested her heart to see if the nerve they operated on misfired still and it never did. The doctor said he is 95% sure she will be perfectly healthy and back on her feet by Saturday. He told them that 1 out of 300 babies are born with this heart problem. And that 10 years ago, they wouldn't have been able to surgically fix the problem. So we are feeling very lucky that she didn't start having major heart problems until now. I called my Mom this morning to see how things went last night and she said "I have a whole new perspective on how you Mom's are up all night with little ones again!" She had to check Michelle constantly last night and help her move in her bed. My Mom is keeping an eye on her 24 hours a day until Friday to make sure she doesn't start bleeding heavily. But to know that my sister will be able to do all of the things she loves to do without having a heart problems is amazing. Maddie looked at me this morning after I got off the phone with my Mom and said "See, Heavenly Father takes care of everything, doesn't He Mom?!"
