This morning started how every morning starts...prodding one little girl to eat her breakfast so I can get her hair done and to school in time, waking up a sleeping baby to do so, and then coming back and getting my cereal-addicted son more cereal in his bowl the second we walk back through the door.
Just after this, I was on the phone with my Mom, looking through our pictures from our photo session a couple of weeks ago. During this conversation, I am holding Grace and her bottle in one hand, looking through pictures on the computer with the other, Hayden is asking for treats by now and I am saying "No treats in the morning, unless you go potty in the potty!" in between "That is a cute one of the family" and "I can't believe how well these turned out even though it was freezing cold and windy." You get the idea.
I finished up the conversation with my Mom to discover that I have been unaware of Hayden's whereabouts for 2 minutes...literally. Now to most Moms, no big whoop. But being the Mom to Hayden...2 minutes is WAY too long. He can get into trouble in the blink of an eye...and he does. Every time. Sweet of him to be so darn reliable. Only this one was on the higher end of the scale. He had climbed up into the cabinet (that was LOCKED), unlocked it, grabbed Josh's allergy medicine, unscrewed the cap (that is "childproofed") and was in the process of putting something in his mouth. I ran after him (still holding Gracie) and shouted "NNNNNOOOOO!" And just as predicted, he swallowed.
I grabbed the bottle and the phone and dialed the poison control number (I have it memorized....I have Hayden!) and told them what happened. Without knowing exactly how many he could have eaten, all we could do was wait it out and watch for the signs they said he would have if he did eat enough to subdue allergies until he was 30. So we sat. On the couch. With a bowl. And waited.
Josh ran home from work in case we needed to get to the hospital fast. We would know in 2 hours. I started asking all of the questions that if he was older he would probably be able to answer like "Did you eat a bunch, or just a few?" To which, depending on the moment he would answer one...or the other. The only cosistent answer was it tasted "disgusing". Thank goodness for that!
The first hour passed and nothing. The second hour passed and still nothing. The poison control called to check on us. Thankfully nothing has happened all day...with respects to Hayden and the medicine. TONS of other things have happened...3 kids live here! I am sure Heavenly Father is up there just exhausted with me and all of my requests. And I thought people who said life with three kids is an adjustment were crazy...until I had three...and they are completely right!

oh wow, what a day! Never a dull moment!
OH my! How scary. I hear from all my sisters that child proof bottles are really easily accesible to children and only difficult for adults to open!
OH my Gosh- you never told me about that? Hayden dude, you gotta simmer down on the drugs! I love that kid & his sweet innocent smile :) I'm glad he's okay.
