First let me preface this by saying, it is sad that when things happen, that the first thing that pops in my head is "I should blog this!"
This experience, I have gone back and forth. One minute I am thinking "Yep, it happened to me, this is my journaling, I should post it. One day I will look back and have the biggest chuckle!" The very next minute begin thinking "But people read this blog. I don't want everyone to know!" So in a moment of weakness, here I sit typing this little story up with the very intention in mind of right after posting my Thankful Thursday so it will be right on top of this little story. Only you who persevered through my Thankful Thursday post will get a chuckle...lucky you!.............not really!
Every week on Thursdays we have kids days throughout the summer. It gives them something to look forward to. So this week we were supposed to go to an indoor jungle gym here. But for the next 2 weeks we are at the new community pool for swimming lessons so we figured that we would go have lunch and come back and go swimming. It is so hot by noon, that being outside starts to get miserable. Sounds good...right?! Well for those of you who know my LOVE of swimming suits...you know I was just jumping up and down on the inside for the opportunity to wear mine!
Well, last night I ran to the store to reluctantly pick up swim diapers (Hayden, come on buddy, any day now would be WONDERFUL!) and I happened to go past the shelves of sunless tanning stuff. Oh, now some of you may know where this story is going.... So I picked up some of the Loreal Sunless tanning wipes (streak free, 100% natural looking) and on SALE! So I bought them, came home and told Josh I had found a solution for swimming the next day.
I put it on and it said that in an hour I would start seeing something. An hour past, I went into the bathroom to look and didn't see much change. I went to bed and when I woke up this morning, oh the pretty pretty sight! I looked down at my legs, my feet...I looked like I am currently suffering from the same tragic disease that Michael Jackson has! I am tan in some places, pasty white in others. I ran in and showed Josh and he tried (unsuccessfully, I might add) not to laugh.
I jumped in the shower and began scrubbing as hard as I could with my body wash and loofah. When my legs and feet could take no more, I gave up. I stood there looking at my horrible attempt at looking "normal" not sure what to do. And you know what, I have one awesome husband...he was trying to get ready for work and he stopped everything, pulled out another one of the blasted wipes and went to work on all of the patches up and down my legs trying to blend them. Only time would tell.
My Mom called and I told her what was going on and she said "Just get in the pool, the chlorine will help it fade..." As right as she probably is, it is the walk of shame from the dressing room to the safety of the deep end of the pool where my legs would disappear that I was not willing to do. For my own stubborn pride and for the sake of the innocent who were going to the pool today I stayed dressed...in pants...on a hot summer day.
But I must say the kids had the best time. Josh came from work on his lunch break to help me out (see...what an awesome guy I have!) They loved playing with Josh in the water and Maddie loved going down the hydroslide with Josh. Grace even got in on the fun. She wasn't so sure of it...but warmed up to the idea for a little bit.

LOL!! I am so laughing right now! Luv the pics of your "tan"!! We live & learn..right?? :) Let me show you a realy good tan that is a SPRAY!! (you can see it as it goes on!)
Ok-
So I have been looking forward to this post all day. I logged on and saw "Thankful Thursday" and thought you had chickened out. I LOVE the look. It is up and coming for people like us who are naturally pasty! Way to sport it! I love you!
NO WORDS!!!! :) I am so glad you are such a good sport! I use Mary Kay sunless tanning lotion ( I works awesome! - and I've tried alot of different things...) needless to say - I won't be wipeing on my tan any time soon! :) LOL!!! Love you!
It really doesn't look as bad as I was imagining...at least not in the pictures. I know a lot of your friends have mentioned brands you should use, but here's another one...just try the shimmer lotions that are out right now. They don't add any color, but they make you look a little tanner because your skin sparkles a little bit...and they don't stink like the actual tanners do.
Can you say zebra? LOL You will be glad that you wrote about this. Life is too funny not to record it. I heart you my little porcelain doll!
I am so glad you shared. I am just laughing so hard right now. I have always been one to tan even with sunblock, but lately I've been thinking my legs are in need of something (minus the sun!)
I have done this before- several times with different kinds! I never learn :) I have looked like I have rolled around in the dirt & don't shower- So, you're not alone on this one girl- I laughed & felt pity at the same time. Been there, done that! you are a total Hotty in my eyes...

The "I'm not sure I should write about this" posts are the best! Thanks for sharing and good luck :)
Oh Rachel, I can totally and completely relate!! I have tried every self-tanning spray, lotion, wipes and mist salons and have come to terms with the fact that I will just always be the "white sheep" of the family! By the way, I put socks on Charly's feet with the Vicks like you said and it WORKED! I have no idea how, but that first night she slept 100 times better!
