Our Trip...Day 1

We had been planning a vacation for almost a year now. But since Josh has to be super employee and always be here (aka...the only employee down here) it kept getting pushed back. Tickets had been purchased and hotels had been reserved and so this time around I was always wondering if it was going to get pushed back again.
But low and behold last Saturday morning at the unholy hour of 5 am. we were on our way.

Within a few hours we were happily playing and basking in the sun in Cali. When I told my Mom we went to the beach the first words out of her mouth were "You wore a swimming suit?!" Yes I did. Even though I detest wearing them because of the pasty white that I am and also now thanks to what having 3 kids has done to my hot bod (I gagged a little typing that...) I thought "It could be worse, it could be May or June when everyone is tan and I am showing up on the beach, right?!" But hitting the beach in Feb, everyone was a bit white and that made me feel a little less lonely. So from now on, you wanna go to the beach in Feb or maybe March I am your girl!
We headed out to Newport beach with our friends the Bogess family and the kids had a blast. It could have something to do with the fact that they were thrilled to not have to spend another minute in the car or the fact that there were other kids to play with.

Maddie headed right out into the water and spend the entire time jumping waves and searching for sea shells.

Hayden fell in love with all the sand to dig in. We finally got him out to the ocean and he promptly bit the dust when a wave came in and knocked him off his feet-and he loved it. From that moment on he spent the day digging a bit and then running out to play.

(After said 'dust biting'...)

Grace on the other hand took an entirely different approach. She spent most of the time sitting on the beach with a bottle in her face. She was happy to just sit there drinking ever so slowly and watch everyone play. She did however decide to eat a couple of fists of sand and that made diaper changing for the next couple of days really really fun! And she is not a huge fan of the ocean.

It was one of those days you wish you could just freeze and stay right there. It was a beautiful day. And it was the perfect start to an awesome vacation!
