So this will be our third summer here in the desert. It gets HOT...so HOT. I know this. Yet every year our garden crashes and burns (for the lack of a better word!)either from the crazy winds that blow tumbleweeds everywhere or the blazing heat waves that roll in. This year we are revamping and trying new tactics. We are going to do a raised bed, move the location, change the watering, and hopefully the third time is the charm.
I will completely admit that I have had a hard time getting my kids (especially Hayden) to be crazy about very many veggies. So this year we planted seeds and had the kids do the planting. Hayden has become a big fan of his "green bean pwants" and checks on them every day to see how big they are getting. I am hoping that once they are producing the actual beans he will want to eat them. Seems like it is worth a shot!
When the garden is in, I will go pick up plants that we didn't start from seeds to complete it but for now this is good. It is amazing how they can go from the tiniest of seeds to little plants all in a matter of weeks.
It is also sad to have the thought in the back of my mind that these poor little guys could have had their death certificates signed already just by being unfortunate enough to be put in my garden, not in the dirt of someone more experienced! :)
