Lets Go Fly A Kite!

We went to the Kite Festival on Saturday. (or Kite "Bestibal" as Hayden kept saying!) Our local power company sponsors a reading program and if you have read enough books you can get a free kite and be entered to win other prizes. They let the kids come and pick out a kite/book and then you can fly your kite, play on the toys that they have there, and check out local vendors.

Maddie had been looking forward to this day since they sent the chart home. She read every night to meet the requirements and always made sure it was filled out. What a fun idea!

They loved going down the inflatable slide stood in a FOREVER long line for the Alien tentand then bounced in the bouncy castle.

We had some lunch and goofed around. Grace has decided that she loves Fritos. The girl could not get enough!

Next it was on to business. We spent a good 20 minutes with Josh holding the kite up in the air waiting for the wind to come. There was a breeze and the only way the kite was gonna get up without a gust was for someone to run with it. Maddie wasn't so sure about the idea so that left Josh and the Hello Kitty kite.

It took some warming up to the idea and a few good breezes and it was up!

(of course...minus a few misses! One of which we were glad no one was in the baby stroller next to us!)

And if you were wondering, yes...he finally ran with it! Maddie was so excited!

They even had a kite hospital with volunteers ready to take your kite and fix it for you if needed. How cute is that?!

It was a fun day and another reason I am one awesome Mom...I didn't put sunscreen on the kids before we went out. I had a tiny bit left in one can from when we went to Disneyland but by the time I got it on Hayden it was too late. So we baked a bit but we had a great time!

We were walking back to the car and I was talking to Maddie and I called her by her nickname "Maddie Doodle" and she looked up at me and said "Don't say that here Mom! My friends might hear you!" WHHHAAATT?!! It seems like I was older before my Mom started embarassing me...but I guess it happens earlier these days or I just thought I was "old"...I was probably 7 1/2 and thought I was practically 16!

That kite festival sounds so fun! And I'm right there with you on the forgetting sunscreen--yesterday I went out "only for a few minutes" so Christian could water our newly planted flowers and he ended up all crispied!!
