I am so grateful for all the time I was able to spend with my grandpa. He was 92 and I knew that this day was going to come at some point and I thought I had prepared myself for it. I have now come to realize that it is impossible to be completely prepared to lose someone you love. I loved that he always told me how much he loved me, how much he loved my family, how he was proud of me.
He was an incredible man. A simple man. He stood up for what he believed in and you could see it when you looked at him. He worked for Howard Hughes (or Uncle Howard as my Dad called him) first as a driver and then they became great friends and Grandpa became his advisor. Grandpa used to tell us about where they traveled, the things they did. Howard respected my Grandpa because he lived just as he believed. I am grateful to have him as an example to me in my life.
I am going to miss him. Deeply. Despite this sadness, I am so happy for him. I am grateful for what I know. I know I will see him again. I know he watches over me. He can now walk without pain, and more than that...he is back with my sweet Grandma after being apart for almost 16 years. There wasn't a day he didn't miss her. Now he doesn't have to.
Thank you Grandpa.
I love you, forever.

Rachel what a beautiful tribute to your Grandpa. I have lost all of my grandparents so I understand your tender feelings. It's a tough thing to say goodbye. Treasure the memories, they are worth everything.
