Where did she go?!

Last night was my girls night scrapbooking night at our neighbor's house behind us. Josh had been doing yard work before I left and came in to be with the kids until bedtime and then he was going back out to work. Before I left I told Maddie that I was going to Brandi's house and that Daddy would be there if she needed anything and that I would give her kisses when I got home. On my way out I told Josh that I had my cell phone if he needed to get a hold of me. We were sitting at Brandi's kitchen table exchanging layouts and putting pictures on our new pages when my cell phone rang. I answered it and Josh sounded worried. He said "Maddie is gone. I just went in to check on her and she is gone." My response was "Funny Josh, you aren't serious." Maddie had never done anything like this before so I thought he was joking with me. He said "No seriously, she isn't here. I have checked the whole house. I have called her name, I have looked everywhere." I suddenly realized he wasn't joking at all. An awful heavy sickening feeling was in the pit of my stomach. By this time all of the girls were asking what was going on. I quickly told them and they asked if Maddie knew I was coming to Brandi's house. I said that she did so they split up and we went on opposite ends of the street making our way back to our house. I was worried because it was night time and the street that joins our house with the neighbors house is a busy street. And then I realized that I had left the cell phone at Brandi's and that if Josh had managed to find her or needed me...I didn't have it. Jodi was with me and she was so sweet...she kept me calm and helped me look and call for Maddie up the street. We made it to the house without seeing her. Josh ran down to us in the driveway and said "She's fine, she's home." I asked where she was and he said "She went over to the church." She told Josh that we were there since that is where we always go. Another ward had been having enrichment in the building last night and a sweet lady had seen Maddie (in her pajamas!) wandering the halls of the church looking for us. The lady asked if Maddie knew where she lived and Maddie took her outside and pointed to the house so she brought Maddie home. I went in the bedroom to talk to her. I told her that we were so worried about her. She said "I looked outside and Daddy wasn't there. So I thought you were both at the church-that is where you always go." We talked and at the end I said "I bet you were so scared." She replied "No I wasn't scared...you were!" I am just relieved that nothing happened to her and that she came home safely.

How crazy! I had a similar experience yesterday! Connor had gone to Max's house. An hour and a half later, I called Mindy just to check in. She said, "Lindsay, he left here 45 minutes ago!" Mindy started walking the neighborhood and I started calling people on the phone. Turns out, Connor had gone over to Tami's house. I was getting so mad at him for not coming home to check in with me first, but then he said, "Mom...I came home and knocked on the door and rang the doorbell and knocked on the window and knocked on the garage door and you didn't answer. I thought you weren't home so I went to Tami's house". I had been cleaning the bathroom and I bet I had the water on or something and just didn't hear him. But, it was such a scary experience not to know where he was for a few minutes, so I TOTALLY understand! Isn't that weird that it happened to us on the same day?
