Madelyn the ballerina

So here is the Maddie dance story. Flashback to 4 months ago. I was talking to a girl in my ward who had a girl a year older than Maddie. She had been taking her to a dance class and said I should look into signing Maddie up when the new dance year started. I called the teacher and got the information on when it would start etc. I thought everything was set. I took her for her first day, which was August 7th. It was an hour long class and in the first 5 minutes I was starting to wonder if we had made the best choice. There was almost 25 girls in Maddie's class alone. There was the teacher and 4 girls who were majoring in dance at the college that were there for the class. Now this is Maddie's first year of dance. They stood all of the girls up and showed them a few steps and then put it to the music that they would be dancing to at their first recital. In the back of my head I was thinking "Wow, that is fast!" At the end of the hour, they had all of the girls sit in a huge circle and they passed out the paperwork to send home for us to read. I handed her teacher the registration form and the check and we went home. That night I was reading the paperwork and knew it wasn't for Maddie. There was a rule that you had to get verbal permission from the teacher for her to miss class and that there were reasons that would not be excused (on vacation, another commitment, etc) or she would get a demerit. After so many demerits you are put on probation. There were also demerits for missing performances which I had heard that there were TONS starting in October and running through April. I just kept thinking...she is five years old! This is her first class!! What if she doesn't like it? I will have spent a fortune and pulled all of my hair out trying to get permission for things! Maddie had come out of her bed that night and sat next to me. I asked her if she liked her class and she looked up at me and said "I don't get to be a ballerina." I asked her if she wanted to keep going with this class or if I could find her another one and she said "I want a different one. I want to wear a ballerina outfit." I didn't sleep that night (it sounds stupid...I know!) because I was so afraid that her teacher would be angry or not let us unregister. I called her the next morning and she was completely fine with it. In talking to other ladies in the ward, they told me that a lot of girls pull out at the beginning for the very reasons that I was pulling Maddie out. I had found another place and signed her up. She had her first lesson on Monday and was beaming. She couldn't get the grin off of her face. She gets to take tap lessons and ballet lessons. Her teacher is so cute with them and there is only 12. What a difference! She puts her dance outfit on all of the time and practices.
