We were supposed to go up north for the weekend. It was my 10 year high school reunion. And I had been looking forward to going for a long time! I wanted to get together with old friends and catch up. (even though most of us have blogs, it isn't quite the same!) Josh's company is in the middle of a tricky buyout of another company right now. He is the only one down here that runs things and everyone else up North is swamped with work. Everyone's summer family vacations were being cancelled. So of course, so did my chance to go up to my reunion. Josh is on call for work 24/7 so if something goes wrong, he has to be here to fix it. But I am grateful that he has a job so I can't complain. Anyway, I was bummed. Really bummed. But Friday night at midnight was the release of Breaking Dawn so I was able to get together with Brandi and Jodi. Brandi even made smoothies and my favorite caramel apple salad (good friend huh!) and we scrapbooked until 11:45 and headed over to Deseret Book. Brandi's sister-in-law works there and had ours in a nice little stack and handed them to us when we walked in the door. We didn't have to even wait in line...Sweet!!! We talked about what we thought would happen and what should happen. And of course, you know I had to read the last few lines of the book. Some habits will never die! Thanks Brandi and Jodi...I had a great time!
And yes, Brandi's little girl was at the party too! She was so good about waking up and going with us. Jodi and I told Brandi that we would get them for her and she didn't want to miss the party...who would!?!
Josh felt bad that his work had ruined the chance to get away. (And Mom and Dad, we owe you a visit...we are coming...as soon as we can!!) But he had some free vouchers for hotels a half an hour away and we decided to "run away" over night to let the kids swim and have a "mini" vacation. Close enough that if something happened, Josh could be back to work, but we hoped nothing would happen. We loaded up and headed out on our "LONG DRIVE"!! When Josh went to check in he found that they had messed up our reservation. But how do you complain when you are already getting it for free?! But they made it up to us anyway by giving us a suite instead. Sure it was like walking into a flashback from the 80's but the space was the best part! We swam and went to dinner at a local chinese restaurant. The food was okay...not worth the money but the waiter was the best one we have EVER had. He was so good with the kids. He brought Hayden "chicken nuggets" (translation, the chicken they use for orange chicken, without the sauce) and wrote his name in chinese on the plate with ketchup. He brought treats for the kids and even played peek a boo with the kids by running out of the restaurant and peeking in the window. The kids loved it. And of course I took my new book. So any chance I got, I was reading. I finished last night. Wow, it was good! I think Josh is excited to get my attention back now that I won't have my nose buried in my book for hours on end!
Getting ready to swim!!
And yes, that is as much of a picture of me in a swimming suit that will be posted online. It was 113 degrees...even I get desperate enough to cool off! And no, those people's eyes will never be the same. Never. :)

The kids could have swam all day and all night!

Maddie was convinced that after her last 2 week swimming lesson that she was now an expert swimmer. Josh and I had to keep an eye on her! She did great though!
Even Grace had a great time in the pool. She loved floating around and playing with her floatie! She wasn't crushed like the other two when she got out, there were still towels to try to shove in her mouth!

I'm glad you had a fun weekend, but we missed you!!! Please tell us when you're up here so we can get together. :)
So i am sad that you didnt get to go to your reunion...but secretly I am happy cuz you got to come with us!!:) That was fun..the excitement and anticipation of the LASt book! :( Glad you at least got to go away and enjoy the sunshine and water! Hope I get a waiter like you guys had! Dang! You should have asked him to watch the kids while you guys went to a movie or something! ;)
You would think that *&#% froze over since you were daring enough to get into a swimsuit AND venture into a public pool! I am so proud of you. No one even noticed your "tan" I am sure. You are STILL my precious porcelain doll sweet cheeks. We are holding out hope for a visit soon..hmmmmm.. WE MISS YOU ALL.
How dare you had so much fun without us that night. Just kidding... I'm glad that you had fun... but we did miss you. I think the mini getaway is a great idea.
Looks like a fun weekend...even if it wasn't what you were originally planning on doing. And you are so funny about swimming suits! You crack me up!
thanks for the invite to the twilight buying...you are offically un-invited to the movie camp out !!!
I'm so jealous that you finished the book already. I have another friend that reads the last couple pages too. That is so funny to me. Maybe I'll try that method sometime :)
BLAST-- I am sooooo glad you came with us- sorry about the reunion though. There is always a 20 year- NO BIG WOOP!! Sure glad you got to spend some fun time in the sun with your cute little fam- & mooosey muscley Grace :)

*Laptop is here- we are going to party-woohoo!
I was bummed you couldn't come up here too! I think it was great of you guys to still do something vacation-ish though!
That's too bad that you missed your reunion, but at mine I discovered that the vast majority of the people I would want to see are the ones I keep in contact with anyway!! When you come up you'll have to set up your own "mini reunion" with your friends. Your mini vacation does look like it was fun, though!
I also was reading Breaking Dawn this weekend and finished Monday afternoon. I'm now going through big time Twilight withdrawal!
I am so proud of you-- a swimsuit! Wahoo! Anywho, I just had to comment on the adorable Gracie. She is getting so big. She is a doll. I can't wait to see her!
I, too, missed our reunion. :( It was sad, but we also went on a vacation :)(which I will post about soon).
I didn't make it to the reunion either so don't feel too bad. AT least you had a great weekend. Where do you live? I think you're more south than I thought.
